What’s new in our media publishing system

Our dev team’s been busy adding new tools and integrating new partner software so you get even more out of our media publishing system. Here are just a few of the updates we’ve released in our current version. As always, there’s nothing you have to download or install. All enhancements are added directly into mps, and are ready for you to use.

Digital Rapids support. You can now use Digital Rapids’ Stream encoding software with thePlatform’s Remote Media Processor (RMP) for transcoding files and importing media into your media publishing system account. This new integration expands the RMP’s framework for automating and orchestrating which files should be offered in various formats, and we’ll continue to integrate more transcoding options in the future. In addition to Digital Rapids Stream, thePlatform continues to support Windows Media Encoder, On2 Flix Engine 8, and Telestream FlipFactory.

Easy thumbnail creation. If you have multiple thumbnail images for individual clips, you’ll appreciate the new tools we have for generating thumbnails. Start with an image—or a video file from which our system can pull an image—and then define as many thumbnail profiles as you want. RMP will scale, center, and crop the source file as necessary, and save the result as either a JPEG or PNG image. Once you have set up these profiles, you can use them on any supported file by using the re-encode files command.

Faster media requests. We’ve updated the technology underlying our media requests to respond in half the time. As you grow your business and increase your content in the media publishing system, you can continue to depend on our release service to quickly direct your end users to the content they want when they click a link in your player, site, or catalog.

New CDN features. In our SDK and PDK we now support Flash streaming via Limelight Networks. We’ve also added support for Akamai “D” tokens for enhanced security, as well as support for Akamai’s secure Flash streaming solution.
