PDK 3.6: Plaxo, Playback, and Advertising

The latest version of the Player Development Kit (PDK) 3.6 was released this week, offering Plaxo social network support and new playback and advertising features:

  • This version provides integration with Plaxo that lets end users send content ratings to their Plaxo Pulse dashboards.
  • You can now apply “start” and/or “end” parameters to video clips to create a release from part of a complete media item.
  • More flexible updates to a ClipInfo control with a “sparse update,” where you only set certain info like banners, leaving the rest of the info the same. Users can also inject defaults into the ClipInfo control for when a clip does not have an author or banners.
  • You can now set an ad fail-over. This means you can show the primary ad if it’s available, or show second or third choice if the primary is not available. This is great for use when the inventory includes local ads.
  • The PDK now has support for MSN’s Multi Player Video Ad (MPVA) advertisement format, which allows you to create ad pattern exemptions for custom ads. For example, you can choose to show an overlay on every ad, but show a pre-roll only on every two or three clips.

2.5 Million Transcodes and Counting

Last month we got the numbers for January 1st to September 3rd 2008: we reached 2.36 million transcodes from January 1st to September 3rd, and we anticipate reaching the 2.5 million mark in October.
Our Transcoding Service easily converts your video into the media formats you need. We offer a shared transcoding service at a basic rate, and for customers who want to set up custom configurations or have consistent capacity requirements, we offer a dedicated transcoding server.
