Envivio and thePlatform Collaborate

Envivio and thePlatform collaborated to develop a plug-in to thePlatform’s Remote Media Processor (RMP) for Envivio 4Balancer, which optimizes the allocation of transcoding and processing resources in 4Caster C4 for file to file transcoding. A single 4Balancer can distribute processing jobs across a pool of up to 50 4Caster C4 encoders dedicated to On Demand file transcoding.

As video is being ingested, jobs are created using either a watch folder function or through the use of an external content management system (CMS). 4Balancer assigns priorities to schedule the jobs based on predetermined strategies and awareness of current workflow conditions.

Designed for Three Screen Service

Envivio 4Balancer works with the Envivio 4Caster C4 encoder system to manage concurrent encoding for all multiple screens: TV, PC, tablets and mobile phones. Content can be encoded for the different screens with different encoding settings per screen. 4Balancer stores preset configurations which are used to dynamically configure the encoder for each encoding task.

High Availability

The 4Balancer features a number of mechanisms to ensure high availability. It automatically re-assigns jobs in the event of interruption on the encoder. Built-in 1+1 redundancy maintains the current job list even in the event of significant disruption to the 4Balancer server. 4Balancer itself features redundant network interfaces and power supplies. An integrated comprehensive reporting interface supports job management and simplifies troubleshooting. 4Balancer interfaces with Envivio 4ManagerTM for integrated control and management within the video headend as a whole.
